Where is Wireless Internet Used?
Have you ever wondered how people living in rural or other isolated places and communities get internet access? What about construction workers who are building new neighborhoods in completely undeveloped areas? Or festivals out in the middle of the desert?
The answer is wireless internet, and Conectrix has leveraged this technology before for several of our customers.
What is Wireless Internet?
In basic terms, wireless internet is internet connectivity without wires like cables and fiber optics. Instead, wireless internet is broadcasted by wireless internet service providers (WISP) through radio waves and satellite signals in specific geographical areas. Some providers include AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Boingo, and Clearwire.
Fixed Wireless Internet
Fixed wireless internet is a specification of wireless internet. It is a tried and tested means of providing a company’s location with broadband internet access without having to use phone or cable lines. Fixed wireless internet is so named because it transmits data between two fixed locations, commonly buildings.
Customers and Places that Need Wireless Internet
So much of how we do business – or go about our daily lives for that matter – is predicated off of internet access. Sending emails, sharing documents, uploading files to the cloud, all of this requires a functional internet connection.
Rural, mountainous, and other isolated communities are no different than cities in their need for internet access. Wireless internet is a great alternative to fiber optics, 4G, or traditional copper services as these options are too expensive or unrealistic for certain geographical areas.
Some providers, like AT&T, will go to these locations and help its customers set up their wireless internet. They install internet antennas, test the signal strength, and connect the devices to a Wi-Fi gateway; linking them to our interconnective society.
Wireless internet is also preferable for places and events that need only temporary internet access such as concerts, festivals, and rodeos.
Customers That Conectrix Has Helped by Leveraging Wireless Internet
Our customer, Pandora Store, opened up a new location in Hawaii. Due to various circumstances, the store would not be able to have fiber or copper wires for the first forty-five days of operations. To remedy this setback, Conectrix connected Pandora Store with Cradlepoint who was able to supply them with a wireless internet connection.
When new neighborhoods are being built in completely undeveloped areas, there are no cables in the ground yet, nor are there even phone lines. Our customer, Lennar Homes (the construction company), needed internet for their phones and computers on site. Again, Conectrix was able to link Lennar Homes up with Cradlepoint.
