Mortgage Company Migrates from Outdated VDI Environment to Virtual Desktop
Conectrix helps a Nevada-based mortgage company suffering from desktop inefficiencies, technical challenges, and security concerns seamlessly migrate to a fully managed virtual desktop environment.
Client Profile
This mortgage industry company has a hybrid workforce.
Instead of using local hardware, the client relied on a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment hosted by a third-party vendor.
Ideally, the VDI environment would allow its 200 users to access their personalized workspaces from any device over the internet.
Challenges
The IT team routinely encountered pain points when attempting to manage its virtual desktop environment.
The client's employees could not reliably leverage BYOD (bring your own device), meaning their personal devices weren't always supported.
Security concerns the client felt their incumbent vendor was unable to adequately address.
Solution
As soon as the client reached out to Conectrix with its list of issues, we immediately began researching a replacement service provider from our portfolio that would be better equipped for the job. Once our discovery research was complete, we provided the client with competitive Desktop as a Service (DaaS) comparison matrices to highlight which vendors would be the best fit.
Based on the client's profile and challenges, we recommended Evolve IP to provide a managed DaaS and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution. This new solution moved the client from a Citrix VDI environment to a VMware-based virtual desktop environment.
Results
By migrating from a Citrix VDI environment to a VMware-based virtual desktop environment, Conectrix enabled the client to achieve a better desktop experience for all of its users. Specifically, this new solution provided a dedicated engineering support pod, improving collaboration among the client's IT team. It also came with more advanced security services, including a backup and disaster recovery plan, satisfying industry security best practices.
Due to its tighter integration with the underlying vSphere hypervisor infrastructure, VMware's VDI solution offered the client better performance, more granular management, and lower latency for virtual desktop sessions than its Citrix counterpart. Additionally, this migration saved the client money, as VMware's licensing model and total cost of ownership are more predictable and cost-effective compared to a Citrix VDI environment.
